Grammatical units

Objectives:
This chapter attempts to take the reader through parts of speech which include
Noun – inflection, plural, gender and types
Pronoun – types and examples.

Verb – types, tenses, aspects, concord etc.

Adjectives – functions, formation and comparison of and types.

Adverb – types, formation and comparison of adverb.

Preposition – types and functions.

Conjunction – types and functions.

Articles – types and functions.

The word is an essential of grammar, because through it, we are able to study and
analyse individual functions and peculiarities of words in a sentence.
Any grammatical analysis usually starts with the word. This analysis is necessary, as it helps to determine:
The right word and its function in the context;
Rules guiding variations (inflexion) to form plurals, tenses etc.

In this post we are going to look at the word as an essential of grammar and other requisite skills under the parts of speech.

Parts of speech

Parts of speech are the constituent parts of a sentence. They can be likened to blocks with which other grammatical structures are constructed. There are eight units identified as parts of speech. They are categorized according to the functions each of the units performs. They are: Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Verb, Adverb, Preposition, Conjunction and Articles.
