Demerits Of Confederal Government

1. Delay in effective issues: Policies discussed may not be effectively carried out in their respective countries. Some member state may not have the power or resources to carried out the policies discussed



2. No effective central authority: This because a sovereign power cannot be located in confederal government. As confederal government is based on equality of the member state, no state has power over others.

3. Breaking of the union: The right of the member state to secede at any time can destabilize or break the union most especially if many of his members determine to secede at the same time.

4. Instability: Confederal government generates political instability because the union is loose. As any member state can determine at anytime to put an end to is membership with confederal government.

5. Lack of spirit of nationality: The spirit of nationality is out of the question in confederal government.

6. Obedience to only one government: Citizen have to obey only one government and that is their own government. The central government is not known or recognized.

7. Loose union: Confederation is a loose union of sovereign state.

8. Absence of national armed forces: Since member states maintain their separate armed forces, no member state may use its armed forces to assist other member state during war.

9. Separate diplomatic representations: since each member state maintain separate diplomatic representations, interests and opinions on global issues may differ and can cause bad blood among the member state of the confederal government.

10. Lack of special recognition: Rich or big states among the member states are not given special recognition. The big and rich states are treated the same way the poor and small states are treated and at time this cause dispute among the member states.
